Cast-Metal receiver
These rifles are very interesting to say the least. They likely represent Chinese efforts to even further reduce costs and time required to build an SKS rifle. Similar to the stamped-receiver rifles, these must have been fairly "experimental" based as very limited quantities have been observed. The rear sight block, gas block, and receiver are all cast metal suggesting the production of these rifles were made in very close time frame as the stamped-receiver rifles as they also have cast parts. they may have also been assembled at the same locations.
Both threaded and pinned barrel version have been observed and both variations have had cross pins securing the barrel to the receiver. Ben Murray owner of Murrays Gunsmithing found the variation having two vertical securing pins located on both sides of the forward section of the receiver had the threads milled off of a standard short-lug barrel, and then pressed secured via the two vertical pins. While still retaining the lug itself, the threads are actually non existent.
The rifle shown below shows a short-lug with threads removed and then pinned with the two vertical securing pins located on both sides of the forward section of the receiver.
Arsenal codes thus far found with the cast steel receiver are as follows.
[0220] [0221] [0132] [0134] & [0141]
