m

Picture
This is the infamous rifle known as the M. It is the only rifle in the history of the SKS worthy of being called an M. Why you ask. Because it is stamped on the side on the receiver SKS M. So where did the Chinese come up with the letter M. The m comes from the m in Monte Carlo stock. This is the first SKS to have a MC stock and the stock remained on the rifle through its entire production run. This is the most common of AK mag capable SKS rifle to ever be imported in to the USA.

The receivers are stamped M

The wood grain on these stocks can be gorgeous. the colors can very from the standard Chinese orange tint to almost a mahogany color. They can be really nice. These stocks can bring as much as $100 or more on the auction sites.

M rifles are new production. All have pinned barrels.

I have never seen a stripper clip groove in any of these rifles with matching numbers.

AK style mag release and magwell liner

This is a stamped trigger group from a M rifle. Note the indent on the side under the hammer hinge. All have stamped trigger groups

When you see a SKS with a 16.5 inch barrel and there is a gap between the gas block and the cleaning rod holder . The rifle is equipped with a short gas system. The front sight block has a cleaning rod holder in place of the bayonet lug. The cleaning rod is 13.25 inches long

Some of the rifles with early serial numbers from Briklee Trading Company have a /416\ triangle stamp. Not all BTC's have this stamp
Picture
These rifles were imported by in 93 and 94 by two companies. C&A out of Virgina Beach, Virgina and Briklee Trading Company in south El Monte, California. They seem to use the same serial number sequence. It appears certain serial number blocks went to BTC and the rest stayed with C&A.
