Clayco sports m8

Picture
Here is the very first Chinese attempt at building a new rifle for the US market. This rifle is not rearsenaled. It is new manufacture. They all have a 20 inch barrel, 10 round mag and no bayonet. They were all imported through Clayco Sports in Claycenter, Kansas in 1984. Tracker1 pics

The receivers are stamped sks m8

This is only time you will see reference to an actual Norinco factory stamped on the side of the rifle.

These rifles are bayonet delete. That means there is no notch in the stock ferrule and no groove in the stock. Not filled in like on the Navy Arms rifles. The groove was never cut on M8 rifles.

The front sight block on these rifles have a cleaning rod holder in place of the bayonet lug. Inside the holder is a spring loaded ball that puts pressure on the cleaning rod and holds it in place. Kinda funky looking but very functional. This is also the same FSB found on later imports like the Sporter and M series of rifles.

Here is a bottom view of the Sporter front sight block.

Each rifle came with a serial numbered box.
